11B. Key Objectives

Key objectives are derived from your goals, but also answer some of the questions about how to achieve the goals at hand. One of the simple ways to do it is by answer the 5Ws and How questions.

Who (who will complete it)

This is where you assign the key people to the positions. Ensuring the people that you are selecting will be capable of completing the task.

What (what are the required actions? What are the resources)

What are the roles and responsibilities and what are the tools that they people will need to accomplish the tasks and what are those specific tasks.

In addition, what are the resources that you will need to complete the project. What are the budgets you need to assign.

When (what are the timelines and timelines for actions)

You need to set the timelines for when the tasks need to be completed by, and the connectedness of the timeliness to one another. This is where some tools such as a GANTT chart come in handy.

Where (what locations are these actions taking place)

While the answer might seem obvious for most actions, the answers can be more in depth.

Why (why are the actions and timelines critical to success)

This is a sometimes overlooks question, as it is always important to consider if the task that you are trying to complete or plan around is necessary to the overall project, and success. As sometimes, what might be considered essential, may just lead to a waste of resources.

This is where you can outline the priority level of each of the tasks at hand.

How (how are you implementing and communicating and what are your checks and balances)

Now is the time to set the plan in motion, what are the KPI’s that you are trying to achieve, what is considered a successful, and how are you maintaining a checks and balances to achieve them. Also, what are the contingencies to when things do not go as planned.
