1. How to get Grants

Grants are probably the most popular form of funding to get for starting or expanding, and there is a good amount of grants available depending on a variety of different aspects. Below is a list of some quick tips for helping with your grant applications.

Make sure you clearly meet the requirements.

A lot of grant applications are rejected and do not even get reviewed because they do not meet the basic requirements. So, make sure that you meet the requirements clearly, and if you are unsure, connect with a program coordinator.

Utilize the Program coordinator for your direct questions.

Program coordinators are there to help applicants with their applications and answer questions. It is recommended to have a conversation with the coordinator, as it will develop a rapport with them, and help get the more direct answers to how to best fill out the application, or even let you know if it worth your time to complete it.

Have your business plan fully developed (some grants come with programs for this (Starter Company Plus and Miinikaanan Badakidoon))

Business plans go along way with having a clear outline of your business to easily answer questions. Even if the applications might not require it, having a plan allows you to quickly manoeuvre quicker through the applications.

Answer every question, even if it is the millionth time.

Although it might seem pointless and frustrating at times. Each question in an application meant to get more information about your project. The best approach is to ask yourself what more information they are asking for about the project, that I might have missed prior. It is important to be succinct but detail with your answers as well.

Keep trying and don’t get down if someone says no.

There are often many applications being reviewed at once, and sometimes it comes down to luck and better applications, as there is always a set amount of grants available.
